When am I Least Likely to Be Pregnant?

Are you wondering if you’re pregnant or when you’re least likely to be pregnant? Figuring out when you’re most likely to be pregnant is your first step. You can do this by determining when you ovulate and going from there.

If you’re facing an unexpected pregnancy and need support, we’re here to offer free pregnancy services and support.

How Does Ovulation Work?

Ovulation is needed to become pregnant. Ovulation happens when a mature egg is released from the ovary and remains in a fallopian tube for 12-24 hours. During this time, it can be fertilized by sperm.

A normal menstrual cycle is 28 days, where ovulation typically happens around 14 days before your next period begins. It’s possible to get pregnant outside of those 12 to 24 hours, as sperm can live for as long as five days after sexual intercourse (depending on the conditions).

Again, it’s impossible to become pregnant if you’re not ovulating. Since the ovaries are not releasing an egg, there isn’t anything for the sperm to fertilize.

Common Pregnancy Symptoms

Are you in disbelief that you’re pregnant? If you think you’re potentially pregnant, the Mayo Clinic shares common pregnancy symptoms, including:

  • A missed period

  • Tender, swollen breasts

  • Nausea with or without vomiting

  • Increased urination

  • Fatigue

It’s still possible to get pregnant when using contraception. If you’re experiencing any of these pregnancy symptoms, schedule an appointment for a free lab-quality pregnancy test, and we will help you with your next steps.
